Comprise a Plan

When considering a topic to write about, it should be a topic of interest of the author. Although the author may not be a subject matter expert, they should have a general knowledge and something unique to offer to the intended audience regarding the topic. I utilized my innovation plan as a starting point when planning for my article. In addition, I reviewed publication sites to gain an understanding of publication requirements. At the onset of a digital publication strategy, a plan should be comprised that focuses on possible topics of interest and publication requirements for sites of consideration for publication.

 

Create an Outline

Once the author has confirmed the topic to write about and established publication criteria, it is time to development an outline for the article. The outline will serve as a framework for the author to shape the article, meet publication requirements, and ensure pertinent information and ideas are detailed in the article. Creating an outline guides the article development process for the author. I utilized my article outline as a foundation to organize my article.

 

Content Development

As I developed my article from the outline, it was important that my content was clear and concise. To ensure I was conveying the intended message I participated in a peer review process with an established group. Through this process I was able to gain valuable feedback from my peers in regards to elaborating on certain points, and providing clarification on others. Having some sort of feedback process in place as content is being developed is an essential component in the article publication process. The peer review process of content developed serves as a verification method that the author is reaching the intended audience.

 

Captivate Your Audience

Just as movie directors, grocery store chains, and car dealerships advertise to promote their products, authors should engage in similar behaviors to captivate their intended audience of the article publication. A podcast was formulated to engage my audience. The purpose of the podcast was to give the audience a sneak peak about the article and leave them wanting more.

 

Compilation of Article

After comprising a plan, creating an outline, content development, and captivating the audience, it is time to compile the article. This process includes reviewing elements from your plan (publication requirements, topic, etc.), outline (making sure major points are included), content development (a review of your ideas and feedback from a selected group), and your audience pitch (did you leave the audience wanting more). Once this process was complete, I was ready to compile my final article*.
