Help Me Grow!

Updated: Jul 20, 2023

As I reflect upon my innovation plan, my goal is to facilitate the learning of novice educational diagnosticians so that they are able to best serve their students. With the thought of helpfulness leading to growth, it has underscored the importance of creating intentional peer collaboration time within the cohort to allow group members to learn from one another, while also incorporating a component where novice diagnosticians have the opportunity to collaborate with experienced educational diagnosticians. This will allow for the opportunity to truly learn and grow while bringing out the best in one another. Heffernan (2015) shared helpfulness outweighs individual intelligence as being helpful brings out the best in an individual while assisting another in growth.

Therefore, the concept of helpfulness leading to growth is so profound but yet simplistic. If we think about developing a new garden, we have to help that garden to grow. We have to make sure we position it in an appropriate place so there is adequate sunlight. We must make sure nutrients are available in the soil that promote growth and the seeds are watered according to their needs. It is through our helpfulness that the garden will be able to bloom and grow, reaching heights it would not be able to reach if not for the helpfulness and intentional collaboration.
